Akbar Abdullaev's Predicted 19-Second Knockout Headlines Contender Series Night

THE FASTEST FINISH OF THE NIGHT

Undefeated lightweight Akbar Abdullaev needed only 19 seconds to knock out Ednilson Santos at Week 6 of Dana White's Contender Series, Season 10, held Tuesday at Meta APEX in Las Vegas in front of UFC CEO Dana White. Abdullaev set up the finish with a couple of range-finding jabs before landing a clean overhand right that put Santos away instantly. He had predicted the one-shot knockout before the fight, and the prediction held up almost exactly as called. The win pushed Abdullaev's record to 13-0, with all 13 of his professional wins coming by finish and 10 of them inside the first round.

FOUR FIGHTERS EARN CONTRACTS

Abdullaev was one of four winners on the night to punch a ticket to the UFC. Ecuadorian welterweight Mayton Perea closed the card with a first-round knockout of Zevan Hunt in just 45 seconds, dropping him with a barrage of straight shots after Hunt briefly worked back to his feet. Brazilian middleweight Igor Cavalcanti stopped Peru's Oscar Ravello via TKO at 1:38 of the first round, a win Cavalcanti called emotional after falling short on the show two years earlier. It was his 14th career victory.

THE COP WHO FIGHTS AT NIGHT

The standout story of the undercard belonged to Luis Hernandez, a Dade County police officer who submitted French prospect Hugo Guillon with a second-round rear-naked choke in a back-and-forth middleweight fight. Hernandez was dropped by a short left hand early in the second round and nearly lost the fight to an anaconda choke attempt, but he worked free, took Guillon's back, and forced the tap as the crowd at Meta APEX reacted loudly. The win improved his professional record to 8-0 with a fifth career submission.

THE ONE THAT GOT A SECOND LOOK

Not every winner left with a contract in hand. Tyshawn Williams opened the card with a unanimous decision over Antonio Monteiro, 29-28 and 29-27 twice, improving to 9-0 behind a heavy wrestling and top-control performance. Rather than an immediate contract, Dana White gave Williams a second chance to fight again later in the season, a reminder that a win alone does not guarantee a Contender Series prospect a UFC deal the way a finish typically does.

WHAT'S NEXT

With four new fighters added to the UFC roster, Dana White's Contender Series Season 10 continues its run toward the next round of hopefuls, while Abdullaev's 19-second finish is already being talked about as one of the cleanest knockouts of the season.
