Arsenal Stay Perfect With Lille Rout as Manchester United Fall to Atletico Madrid

ARSENAL MAKE IT TWO FROM TWO

Arsenal beat Lille 3-0 at the Emirates Stadium on Tuesday to move to two wins from two games in this season's Champions League, following their opening win over Napoli. The result keeps Arsenal among the handful of teams with a perfect record through the first two matchdays of the league phase.

UNITED SLIP UP IN MADRID

Manchester United endured a difficult night away at Atletico Madrid, falling 2-0 at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano. The defeat leaves United with work to do in the league phase table after a mixed start to their European campaign.

Elsewhere on Matchday 2, Barcelona thrashed Galatasaray 4-1 away in Istanbul, continuing their own strong start to the competition. Bayern Munich were held to a 3-3 draw away at Viking, while Villarreal beat Napoli 3-1 and RB Leipzig edged past PSV Eindhoven 1-0.

A TIGHTLY BUNCHED LEAGUE PHASE

With two rounds of the 36-team league phase complete, the standings remain tightly bunched behind the small group of teams with maximum points. Arsenal and Barcelona's perfect starts stand out early, while Manchester United's defeat in Madrid adds early pressure heading into their next continental fixture. The competition's expanded format means more results like these will shape the table significantly before the knockout playoff round begins in the new year.
