Atletico Madrid Beats 10-Man Real Madrid 2-1 in Fiery Capital Derby

ATLETICO TAKES THE DERBY
Atletico Madrid won the first capital derby of the season in the Spanish league, beating 10-man Real Madrid 2-1 at the Metropolitano on Sunday. Dean Huijsen was sent off in the 52nd minute for a foul that gave away a penalty, which Alejandro Grimaldo converted. Jonathan David added a second in the 59th before Antonio Rudiger pulled one back for Madrid in the 89th.
Real Madrid wanted a red card for Atletico's Cristian "Cuti" Romero after he stepped on Jude Bellingham's leg in the first half; VAR reviewed the incident but only issued a yellow. Madrid also wanted a red card for Lee Kang-in over a hard foul on Federico Valverde. Madrid coach Jose Mourinho was back to his combative self after the match, criticizing the officiating and saying there were "two clear red cards" for Atletico's players that went uncalled.
The result moves Atletico to second place, five points behind leader Barcelona, which beat Sevilla 3-1 on Saturday behind a Raphinha hat trick. Real Madrid drops to fourth, six points off the pace, as Barcelona has now won seven straight to open the season. Elsewhere in La Liga, Real Betis moved into third with a 1-1 draw at Deportivo La Coruna, and Real Sociedad beat a struggling Valencia side 3-2 on a second-half stoppage-time winner.
CITY SURVIVES AN EIGHT-GOAL THRILLER
Manchester City extended its perfect start to the Premier League season to five games, but not before Sunderland striker Brian Brobbey outshone Erling Haaland with a hat trick in a wild 5-3 City win. City twice gave up the lead before Haaland put the game away with City's fifth goal in the 81st minute, moving City three points clear of defending champion Arsenal.
Manchester United salvaged a 1-1 draw at Fulham on a Matheus Cunha goal in the 89th minute to avoid a third straight defeat in all competitions. Alexander Isak scored his fourth goal of the season as Liverpool beat Bournemouth 1-0, while Leeds and Crystal Palace played out a scoreless draw.

PSG moved up to sixth, five points behind leader Monaco heading into the international break.
