Francisco Cerundolo Replaces Injured Tommy Paul for Team World at Laver Cup

PAUL OUT WITH AN ELBOW INJURY

Tommy Paul has withdrawn from the Laver Cup after aggravating an elbow injury during his run to the fourth round of the US Open, where he lost to Carlos Alcaraz. It is the second year in a row that an injury picked up at the year's final Grand Slam has forced Paul out of the team event, and it leaves Team World needing a late replacement just weeks before the tournament gets underway in London.

CERUNDOLO STEPS IN

Francisco Cerundolo will take Paul's place, making his fourth consecutive Laver Cup appearance for Team World. The Argentine, currently ranked 25th in the world, arrives in form after also reaching the fourth round at the US Open, where he beat Taylor Fritz before losing to Alexander Blockx. He has won five ATP titles in his career, two of them this season at Buenos Aires and Queen's.

Cerundolo confirmed the call-up on social media, posting that he was looking forward to representing Team World again in London.

THE FULL ROSTERS

With Cerundolo's addition, both six-man rosters for the September 25-27 event at London's O2 Arena are now set. Team World, captained by Andre Agassi with Pat Rafter as vice-captain, fields Fritz, Alex de Minaur, Ben Shelton, Alexander Bublik, Learner Tien and Cerundolo. Team Europe, led by Yannick Noah with Tim Henman assisting, counts on Alcaraz, Alexander Zverev, Flavio Cobolli, Rafael Jodar, Jakub Mensik and Casper Ruud.

WHAT'S NEXT

Team World arrives in London as the defending champions after beating Team Europe 15-9 in San Francisco last year. With both rosters now confirmed, the countdown to the O2 Arena begins in earnest, with Cerundolo stepping into a lineup that will try to defend that title against a Team Europe side anchored by Alcaraz and Zverev on home soil.
