Harry Kane Equals England's All-Time Appearance Record in 3-0 Win Over Czech Republic

A record-equaling night at Wembley

England closed out their Nations League international break with a 3-0 win over the Czech Republic at Wembley, a night built around captain Harry Kane. The match marked his 125th appearance for England, matching Peter Shilton's all-time record, which had stood for 36 years.

Kane made sure the occasion was a memorable one on the pitch as well, directly involved in all three of England's goals with two of his own plus an assist. Vladimir Coufal added an unfortunate footnote for the visitors, turning the ball into his own net during the match.

A fitting tribute from the record holder

Shilton himself marked the milestone with a congratulatory message for Kane, posting a video saying: "You will go on and beat it in November, I'm sure of that, because you're still going strong, Harry." With England's all-time scoring record already in his pocket at 89 goals, Kane now looks set to stand alone atop the appearance list as well before the year is out.

Kane reflected on the achievement in typically understated fashion, telling ITV afterward: "I think it's always special, even just walking out now and seeing the stadium. I try and never take it for granted."

What it means going forward

At 32, Kane shows no signs of slowing down for club or country, and equaling a record that had stood since before many of his current teammates were born underlines just how central he has become to this England side. With the record expected to fall outright in November, the Wembley crowd may not have long to wait before witnessing history made outright rather than just matched.
