Marc Marquez Cuts Title Gap to 19 Points With Dominant Aragon Double

THE RACE

Marc Marquez won the 2026 Aragon Grand Prix on Sunday, beating KTM's Pedro Acosta by 1.7 seconds to complete a perfect weekend at MotorLand Aragon. It was his fourth win of the season and his third straight victory at this circuit, stretching his all time premier class win tally to 77.

The result did not come easily.

THE MISTAKE

Marquez dropped to third place at the start after a technical error nearly derailed his race entirely. He later explained what went wrong.

"I forgot the rear device."

The device stayed active through Turns 2 and 3, slowing him down enough for Aprilia's Marco Bezzecchi and championship leader Jorge Martin to get past. Marquez spent the opening laps clawing his way back, retaking Martin at Turn 15 on the very first lap before setting his sights on Bezzecchi.

THE FIGHT FOR THE LEAD

The real battle came on lap six, when Marquez launched an attack on Bezzecchi at Turn 15. Bezzecchi refused to back down, and the two riders ran side by side down the back straight at more than 300 kilometers per hour before Marquez completed the pass under braking into the final corner complex. Pedro Acosta capitalized on the fight between the two, sneaking past Bezzecchi during the same battle to take second place away from him for good.

THE FULL STANDINGS

After Aragon, Jorge Martin still leads the championship on 256 points. Marquez's maximum 37-point weekend moved him up to second on 237, 19 points back. Bezzecchi's steady Aprilia campaign has him third on 232, just five points behind Marquez and 24 off Martin, turning what looked like a two-rider fight into something closer to a genuine three-way title race with six rounds still to go, starting at the San Marino Grand Prix in Misano.
