MotoGP's 2027 Grid Takes Shape as Bagnaia Signs With Aprilia

THE HEADLINE MOVE

MotoGP's rider market for 2027 is nearly settled, with Francesco Bagnaia agreeing a four year deal to leave Ducati for Aprilia, where he will line up alongside Marco Bezzecchi through the 2030 season.

THE CHAIN REACTION

Bagnaia's departure opens a seat at Ducati's factory team, which will be filled by Pedro Acosta, promoted alongside reigning champion Marc Marquez after Marquez extended his own Ducati contract for two more seasons in June. Acosta's move away from KTM's factory squad in turn sends Alex Marquez and Fabio Di Giannantonio to Red Bull KTM for 2027.

At Yamaha, Jorge Martin and Ai Ogura have both been confirmed on deals running through 2028, while Fabio Quartararo and Alex Rins will not continue with the factory project beyond this season. Gresini Ducati has locked in Joan Mir and Daniel Holgado, and Pramac will pair Toprak Razgatlioglu with Moto2 graduate Izan Guevara.

WHY THE LONG CONTRACTS

The wave of multi-year deals across the grid, including Bagnaia's four-year run through 2030, lines up with a bigger shift coming to the sport. The 2027 season brings sweeping technical regulation changes, most notably a move to smaller 850cc engines, and manufacturers appear to be locking in their rider line-ups early to build around the new bikes rather than risk a reshuffle mid-transition.

WHAT'S LEFT

With those moves in place, only the Tech3 satellite seat remains unresolved as teams finalize their lineups for the new season.
