Zverev Clinches Record Sixth Laver Cup for Team Europe With Win Over Learner Tien

The clinching point

Alexander Zverev sealed a record-extending sixth Laver Cup title for Team Europe on Sunday, beating American Learner Tien 7-6(3), 6-3 at London's O2 Arena to complete a 13-5 win over Team World.

It was the fourth time Zverev has personally clinched the Cup for Europe, following previous title-sealing wins in Chicago in 2018, Geneva in 2019, and a doubles win in Boston in 2021, a remarkable record of coming through in the decisive moment for his team.

Doubles paved the way

Earlier in the day, Flavio Cobolli and Jakub Mensik had already pushed Europe closer to the trophy, beating Taylor Fritz and Alex de Minaur 7-5, 6-3 in doubles to move the score to 10-5. Zverev's win took Europe past the 13-point threshold needed to secure the Cup outright, meaning the remaining scheduled singles matches, Carlos Alcaraz against de Minaur and Rafael Jodar against Fritz, were never played.

A gracious winner

Zverev credited the opposition after the match: "I'm happy that I did it today. But massive credit to the entire Team World. They pushed us all the way. We're definitely happy that we won!"

Reclaiming the trophy

The win returns the Laver Cup to Team Europe, captained by Yannick Noah, after Team World had taken the trophy in San Francisco the previous year. Europe has now won the event in 2017, 2018, 2019, 2021, 2024 and 2026, against three wins for Team World in 2022, 2023 and 2025.

Actor Leonardo DiCaprio and Laver Cup co-founder Roger Federer were among the spectators at the O2 Arena for the deciding rubber. The event's 10th staging in 2027 will move to a new venue, the Intuit Dome in Inglewood, California.
